Cisco says driving 5G network architecture transformation, Telecom News, ET Telecom

NEW DELHI: Cisco Systems, a digital communications technology conglomerate said that the company is supporting telecom carriers to bring architectural evolution in their network infrastructure to reduce cost pressures in a hyper-competitive landscape.

“We have been working with service providers on the 5G front, and are still working with some of them around the area of architectural transformation. We are helping operators reduce their cost per bit from an infrastructure perspective,” Viswanathan Iyer, President – Service Provider at Cisco APJ told ETTelecom.

The US-based multinational said that it assists telcos converge IP and optical networks enabling them to bring down cost per bit transport infrastructure as enterprises embrace digital transformation.

“I think a very critical area for operators is really around monetisation. To monetise networks from a B2B perspective and B2C perspective, is where we really see business transformation. We are working with them in delivering new use cases around private 5G and mobile IoT, really helping industries digitise,” Iyer said.

The executive further said that the company’s mobile IoT platform hosts nearly 230 million connected cars, and is taking the solution to the smart energy segment in a bid to digitise the entire ecosystem.

“We have a number of smart metering applications, which are taking the same 5G technology and bringing it to the consumers home in helping them measure the energy and water usage. We are beginning to see newer use cases of 4.0 industry in digitising industries, by leveraging connectivity applications.”

Chuck Robbins-headed Cisco supports companies across multiple sectors to enhance customer experiences, transform processes and business models as well as empower workforce.

The company, headquartered in San Jose, further said that it facilitates telecom service providers to bring content delivery and mobile IoT services to the edge.

Cisco is also taking artificial intelligence (AI)-based capabilities to the core telecom network in a bid to predict any eventuality and proactively fix it.

“It is a very exciting phase that we are beginning to see a lot of interest around operational transformation – in terms of how you are going to leverage Gen-AI, for example, or predictive AI to completely build the next generation telco, including OSS and BSS stacks.”

Cisco’s predictive network gathers data from a multitude of telemetry sources, and can also predict user experience issues, offering options for problem resolution.

“We are very excited about bringing predictable experiences, in leveraging our portfolios like, say, ThousandEyes along with our connectivity offerings to provide a very predictable SLA for our customers,” he added.

The network security and gear provider said that it had already deployed an IoT platform with North America’s AT&T, Japanese Docomo, Indonesia’s XL Axiata and Australian Telstra.
