City of Wichita informs residents of cyber security incident

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The City of Wichita says certain city systems were encrypted by malware on Sunday.

At 5:19 p.m., the City of Wichita sent out an alert with the following information:

The City says the computer network and some systems are shut off to prevent the spread of the virus, and due to this shut-off, certain services are temporarily unavailable. They did not specify which systems were affected and the impact on resident’s data is currently unknown.

First responders are still available at this time.

Payments made to the City, such as court citations and water bill payments, are unavailable.

The City says it’s working with third-party specialists to safely and securely restore the computer network. They do not have a timeline as to when the system will be restored and services will be made available.
