Cybersecurity regulations are gaining momentum globally and gaining the attention of boards of directors – and for good reason, said Erik Gaston, Tanium CIO of global executive engagement, who discussed the evolving nature of regulatory initiatives in the United States and the European Union and how IT organizations can navigate these changing requirements.

Technologies such as cloud, containerization and artificial intelligence are driving regulatory intervention and new standards, particularly in cybersecurity. Organizations need to take proactive measures against threats and ensure an integrated approach to cybersecurity, he said.

“We’re seeing boards getting involved in cybersecurity. This is no longer just a CISO problem or someone in the back office taking care of it. This is becoming a front and center board issue,” Gaston said. “Our customers are working very hard to get that visibility and understand the implications of all of these regulations.”

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at the Fraud, Security and Risk Management Summit, Gaston also discussed:

  • Maintaining a state of cyber readiness to prevent breaches;
  • Strategies for adapting to advancements in AI;
  • The need to balance compliance and security.

Gaston has nearly two decades of IT experience. Prior to Tanium, he held C-suite leadership roles at several organizations, including AppDynamics, Align and Morgan Stanley.
