Disney ‘stunt robots’ can change Hollywood forever

Almost without anyone noticing, Disney is becoming a tech company.

They’re still obviously making movies and TV shows and running Disneyland locations and so on, but they’re also creating cool tech.

And one of these tech products is a stunt robot that’s just incredible to behold.

Dubbed Stuntronics, these robots are essentially superhuman stunt performers.

Visually, they look like a humanoid robot without a face and a gunmetal gray body.

For obvious reasons, they can do things humans can’t do.

And they can’t get hurt.

They can fall and break, but obviously, that’d only be a budget issue, not a human tragedy.

They can jump so high it looks like they can literally fly.

“This project combines advanced robotics with the exploration of untethered dynamic movement to create realistic aerial stunts that would be humanly impossible,” Disney wrote in a statement on the Stuntronics project website.

The idea is to eventually replace human actors for all those scenes that would either be impossible or too dangerous for stunt performers to complete.

But Tom Cruise and all the other actors who famously do their own stunts can rest easy, as the company’s Stuntronics aren’t ready to join the action just yet.

And they won’t be in the available future, either.

They’re just in the prototype phase, and progress is being made, but quite slowly.

It’s certainly an interesting project, though.

And it’s further proof that Disney is branching out.

A few months ago, the company teased an innovative solution to make VR feel even more realistic.

This isn’t their first robot, either.

A couple of years ago, they launched a roller skating bunny for some reason.

Mind you, we’d probably put the Stuntronics project in a different league.
