EOS Data Analytics Launches ‘Harvesting Hope’ to Support Ukraine’s Farmers Amid Ongoing War

In response to the severe challenges wrought by the ongoing war in Ukraine, EOS Data Analytics has unveiled ‘Harvesting Hope,’ an initiative designed to spotlight the crisis engulfing Ukraine’s agricultural sector. This comprehensive webpage features an interactive map that showcases historical and forecasted yields of main crops in Ukraine in 2021-2024. Additionally, the initiative contextualizes the current state of Ukraine’s agriculture and its impact on global food security.

Motivated by a commitment to supporting Ukrainian farmers, the company will offer them free access to EOSDA Crop Monitoring in 2024 as part of the ‘Harvesting Hope’ initiative. This platform will help agrarians navigate adversities and ensure a sustainable future for Ukraine’s agricultural sector.

Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, Ukraine has been facing unparalleled challenges, particularly in agriculture. The sector, foundational to the nation’s economy and food security, saw its output plummet from a record 100 million tons in 2021 to just 56 million tons in 2022 due to displacement, disrupted supply chains, and other war-related impacts. This disruption has had significant repercussions globally, as nations such as China, Spain, Türkiye, and Egypt heavily relied on Ukrainian grain exports to sustain their food supply.

In addition to reduced export capacity, issues such as soaring fertilizer prices and labor shortages have severely strained the sector, making it difficult for farmers to recover their investments.

This map is created using historical data from the Latyfundist website and the CGMS-Ukraine system for earlier years and scenario analysis based on forecasts from the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts for 2024, offering a detailed view of each region’s agricultural status. Better Farming Through Nanotechnology

Recognizing the need for a broader understanding of the situation, EOS Data Analytics presents this map within the ‘Harvesting Hope’ initiative — a comprehensive webpage that not only maps but also contextualizes the impact of the war on both local agriculture and global food security, listing the countries that suffered most from reduced Ukrainian grain exports.

“The ‘Harvesting Hope’ initiative is our commitment to turning data into a lifeline, helping Ukrainian farmers not just survive but thrive amid adversity. By providing comprehensive insights and forecasts, we aim to restore stability and growth to Ukraine’s vital agricultural sector,” shares Oleksii Kryvobok, chief science expert at EOS Data Analytics.

To further empower Ukrainian farmers, EOSDA is providing free access to its EOSDA Crop Monitoring platform throughout 2024. This tool offers up-to-date insights into crop health, weather patterns, and soil moisture dynamics, enabling farmers to make informed decisions to maximize their agricultural efficiency.

“EOSDA Crop Monitoring is capable of transforming the way agriculture navigates challenges — be it climate variability or geopolitical disruptions. That’s because our platform provides not only data but also strategic foresight, enabling farmers to optimize their resources and secure their crops against current and future uncertainties,” comments Kateryna Lozko, head of customer success at EOS Data Analytics.

Following its vision to make space tech a global driver of sustainability on Earth, EOS Data Analytics has launched ‘Harvesting Hope’ as another initiative to empower Ukrainian farmers. By providing an essential digital tool to adapt and thrive amidst ongoing challenges, this initiative marks a critical step toward fostering resilience and recovery in Ukraine’s agricultural sector.
