FBISD’s Austin HS NJROTC places 10th in World Robotics Competition

The Stephen Austin High School NJROTC (Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps) Robotics Team built, coded, and drove its way, almost literally, to tenth place in their division over a three-day competition.

The top 70 teams qualified for their event in each division from an overall group of 20,000 competitors.

Under the leadership of Austin High School’s NJROTC Naval Science Instructor, Chief Daniel Becerra, the students built a Vex 5 Robot, coded, and learned how to skillfully and strategically maneuver in an autonomous mode and combative field competitions. Over the three-day event, the student teams were paired randomly with others with whom they had never worked. The Austin team was paired with a team from Tampa during the quarter finals and lost by just two tri-ball scores(10pts) in a very close match, to come in tenth, overall.

A team from Hawaii won the Division in the 2024 World Competition. Kudos to them and the outstanding Stephen Austin NJROTC team for its admirable achievement.
