To enhance marketability for FHSU graduates across job sectors, the departments of Informatics and English have created a co-sponsored certificate program: Data-Driven Writing with AI and Analytics. The 15-credit-hour certificate is the collaborative work of Dr. Shane Schartz, assistant professor of informatics, and Linda Smith, senior lecturer of English.

This is the first cross-department collaboration to join informatics and English, and the first cross-college certificate to involve faculty from the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Studies, and from the Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship. The certificate has been fully approved and is now available to students.

“Business and industry across career tracts demand precision in communication that now includes facility with GenAI and big-data analyses, and this certificate provides students with experience and evidence of skill sets appropriate to the global job market,” Smith said.

Course work for the certificate was carefully curated with the goal of complementing any career objective by introducing the concepts, practices, and precisions desired and valued across professions: proficient data-driven writing, facility with artificial intelligence, and ability to clearly convey analyses to a broad audience.
