FinTech Industry Unites Behind Project Nemo
Today, Project Nemo announces that support from across the FinTech industry is enabling the disability inclusion initiative to exhibit at Money20/20, to bring more awareness of the need to better serve the UK’s largest minority.
Project Nemo is a grass roots initiative led by Joanne Dewar, industry champion and former FinTech CEO. The project, which works with disability champions and service providers to educate on how to make the industry more inclusive, launched at the Innovate Finance Global Summit in April to widespread industry support.
Thanks to engagement from the Money20/20 team itself, Joanne Dewar will be leading a workshop at the Money Beach Club on Thursday 6th June on the business case for disability inclusion in FinTech, together with Dutch accessibility specialists Max Inclusion. Thanks to the support of sponsors including Ecommpay, The Pie Factory, Standbuilders, Fox Williams and EWPN, Project Nemo has secured stand design and build and, importantly, will bring a team to the Money20/20 show floor to drive greater knowledge and awareness of disability inclusion principles among FinTech attendees.
Joanne Dewar, Project Lead, Project Nemo, comments: “The whole Money20/20 team has been supportive in enabling Project Nemo to bring its message to the audience in Amsterdam, and to secure additional support from Ecommpay, The Pie Factory, Standbuilders, Fox Williams and EWPN to maximise our impact at the conference really demonstrates that people are leaning into disability inclusion.
“I’m incredibly grateful to all our sponsors for the opportunity to share Project Nemo with the industry’s key stakeholders at the most important FinTech conference of the year. It feels particularly serendipitous as Project Nemo’s journey started in earnest at Money20/20 last year, where I spoke on multiple panels about the importance of accessibility in payments and received overwhelming feedback that I should funnel my passion into an initiative that could drive meaningful change.”
Miranda McLean, Chief Marketing Officer at Ecommpay, says: “We’re delighted to be supporting Project Nemo. Increasing inclusion and accessibility across FinTech is crucial – our industry has an opportunity to lead the way, and we want to be a driving force for that change, improving the reputation of the sector and encouraging future generations to see this as an attractive career path. The FinTech space is for everyone, but there’s work needed to make the industry accessible for all.”
Melanie Ockerse, Executive Board Member, EWPN, adds: “It’s wonderful to see collective recognition that the accessibility of all products and services needs to be assured, and that there is genuine desire to learn. FinTech has the opportunity to harness the power of the latest assistive technology to have a transformative impact, and we’re proud to be supporting Project Nemo as they educate the wider industry.”
