Firm wins entrepreneurship competition
Mebic Organic has emerged as the winner of the Entrepreneurship World Cup at the competition’s national finals in Lagos.
According to a release, the Entrepreneurs World Cup finals happened alongside the inaugural Entrepreneurs Lounge on June 8, 2024.
Other finalists at the EWC Nigeria National Finals were Vet Konect, a digital animal health company from Makurdi and EarlyBean, a startup empowering kids to learn smart money skills while providing tools for parents to guide their financial journey, from Lagos.
Another finalist in the competition was Medplan, a tech-driven healthcare enterprise out of Benin City.
Upon their emergence as finalists, the four companies will progress to ‘EWC 250,’ where they will compete against applicants from 200 countries worldwide.
The statement noted that successful founders from the round would undergo virtual training sessions aimed at their current stage of development leading up to qualification for the EWC Global Finals.
It added that the competition is hosted globally by the Global Entrepreneurship Network and Monsha’at.
According to the Managing Director of GEN Nigeria, Olawale Anifowose, global finalists stand to win $1m in cash prizes at the EWC Global Finals set in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, later in the year.
In her opening remarks at the Entrepreneurs Lounge, the founder and CEO of Promoprint Ventures Ltd., Patricia Ojora, spoke about her entrepreneurial journey with guests engaged in networking activities and pitching sessions, as well as games and music.
This event was part of the GEN Entrepreneurs Lounge series held across several Nigerian cities through a partnership between the Enterprise Development Centre and Bluerock Accelerate.
The judges who presided over Nigeria’s national competition included the Executive Director and CFO of Providus Bank, Adeoye Ojuroye; the MD of Capival Investment Ltd, Adetokunbo Ajetunmobi; the CEO of Promoprint Ventures Ltd, Patricia Ojora; and the MD/CEO of Quest Advisory Services Limited, Bayo Rotimi.
Since its inception in 2019, the EWC has boasted a connection of founders, with 430,000 entrepreneurs registering from more than 200 countries and invaluable support services estimated at $266m.
