First Electric Vehicle on display in Auburn | Local

AUBURN, Ind (WFFT) — It’s a car enthusiast’s dream

At the Worldwide Auctioneers Enthusiasts Auction, you’ll get to see cars as new as the Tesla Cybertruck, or even one of the original electric vehicles from 1916.

It may come as a shock to some of you that electric vehicles are not new.

They date back more than a hundred years, but now they have a lot more bells and whistles.

At Worldwide Auctioneers you get to see both the new and the old go up for auction this weekend.

Principal and Auctioneer John Kruse says visitors get to decades’ worth of cars all in the same place

“It’s fascinating to watch the innovation and ingenuity of American automobile manufacturers, and you hear about Teslas and you see the new Cybertruck and you’re ‘like what is this, this is wild,’ ‘ Kruse said.

The technology is much different, but the idea behind EVs hasn’t changed.

” Rauch and Lang in 1916 built this car. So I got to drive both of these. It’s remarkable how impressive it is to drive this car. Now it’s a tiller-steered car, so rather than a steering wheel, it has a little tiller bar. It’s very quick, it’s very quiet,” Kruse said.

With newer cars being more sophisticated that means more things can go wrong.

The Cybertruck was recalled to fix the accelerators, but after 108 years the original e-v is still trucking.

“It’s not new, a lot of us think EVS has been showing up the last few years. There was a lot of them back in the day, and they’re back so it’s really cool to see them side by side,” Kruse said.

Chief Auctioneer Rod Egan says there’s a lot to learn and something almost everybody can relate to.

“Who owned it, wow, where did it come from,’ you know there’s so much stuff to it, and honestly nothing has touched American people more than the automobile. Everybody has a story, a memory, something, something they did, a car they never had that they wanted,” Egan said.

Some brave car enthusiasts like Robert Pass are parting ways with their beloved vehicles.

He’s been coming to shows for about three decades and says he always learns something new

“This model was a prototype by General Motors.. and the designer was Harley Earl. He famously designed all the fabulous cars at Cadillac,” Pass said.

Whether you’re shopping for yourself or just browsing you’ll still get to see more than a hundred years of automotive history

The auction begins tomorrow but you don’t have to be here to make a bid you can walk around and just take all the cars.
