Foundation donors get close-up view of surgical robotics gear | Business

Sun Health Foundation donors got a first-hand look at the capabilities of robot-assisted surgery during a special event hosted by Banner Health at its Intuitive Robotics Mobile Experience in Mesa.

“We are thankful for this opportunity provided by Banner Health and Intuitive Robotics” said Sun Health Foundation Chief Engagement Officer Nora Hannah. “Seeing these systems in action gives us a greater understanding of their importance and how our continued combined efforts are improving lives within our community every single day.”

Donors were able to explore the advantages of Intuitive’s da Vinci and Ion systems and take part in demonstrations through thoracic robotic surgery and imaging simulators, while under the guidance of Banner Health surgeons who use the robots daily. The surgeons also shared patient cases from initial diagnosis through successful recovery, to illustrate the positive impact robotic surgery has had on patient outcomes.

The da Vinci and Ion surgical systems are designed to help surgeons perform minimally invasive surgical procedures through the use of high-definition 3D vision, a magnified view, and robotic and computer assistance. The benefits of these procedures include a compressed time frame from diagnosis to treatment, shortened time in surgery, reduced healing time after a procedure, and fewer days in the hospital for patients.

Intuitive, headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, has spent almost three decades creating products and services to benefit care systems worldwide, with an emphasis on minimally invasive, life-enhancing solutions. In 2022, their technology assisted in more than 12 million procedures in 70 countries.

Sun Health Foundation champions superior health and wellbeing through philanthropy, inspired living, and wellness programs. The organization is the primary philanthropic arm for both Banner Del E. Webb and Banner Boswell medical centers and provided funding for the existing cutting-edge surgical robots at these locations.
