French AI startup Mistral releases generative AI model for coding (NASDAQ:MSFT)

Mistral, a French AI startup that is backed by Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), on Wednesday announced the release of Codestral, an AI model designed for code generation tasks.

Codestral is said to be trained on a diverse dataset of 80+ programming languages, including the most popular ones, such as Python, Java, C, C++, JavaScript, and Bash.

Mistral added that Codestral performs well on more specific ones, like Swift and Fortran.

Codestral can complete coding functions, write tests, and complete any partial code using a fill-in-the-middle mechanism, the AI startup wrote in a company blog post.

Codestral is a 22B open-weight model that can be used for research and testing purposes.
