A “Spotify model” of licensing, regulation and royalties could be the answer to the recent slew of lawsuits and future litigation relating to generative artificial intelligence defined by rampant misappropriation of name, image and likeness of individuals, including high-profile celebrities.
Dan Jasnow, partner and co-leader of the AI, metaverse and blockchain industry group at ArentFox Schiff, spoke to Law.com about the recent copyright lawsuits relating to AI-generated deepfakes, and what changes could be in store for the entertainment industry as regulators struggle to keep pace with technology. Jasnow compared the current use of generative AI to the piracy of music tracks on peer-to-peer digital interlinking platform Napster in the early 2000s.
