Frontier outage in Norwalk caused by I-95 crash, company says

NORWALK — The fiery crash that forced crews to close Interstate 95 to traffic on Thursday morning also knocked out telecommunications lines owned by Frontier Communications, resulting in service disruptions for local customers. 

The damaged lines are located near the Fairfield Avenue overpass, which was badly burned when a tanker involved in the crash erupted in flames. The bridge was later demolished after officials determined the structure had been compromised in the blaze, which was fueled by 8,500 gallons of oil.  

In an emailed statement on Saturday, Frontier officials said they expect to have service restored for the majority of the affected customers by the end of the weekend and hope to complete the restoration by the end of the week. 

“We are working diligently to get our customers connected despite the challenges caused by the fuel truck,” company officials wrote in the statement.

Frontier, which is headquartered in Dallas, offers residential and commercial telecommunications products, including internet access and telephone services, according to the company’s website.
