In the midst of the Covid pandemic, global agri-food supply chains buckled due to a shortage of workers — from chefs and fruit pickers to meatpackers and truckers.

A shift to more automation was seen as a potential solution at the time, though an expensive endeavor and something that was still very much in development. But since then, more money has poured into agriculture robots in an attempt to ease labor shortfalls and make production more efficient.
