Google Workspace unveils AI-powered video creation app and more in the latest generative AI update

Google revealed that it is bringing new generative AI features to its Google Workspace suite of cloud-native productivity tools, which includes Docs, Sheets, and Slides, to enable its millions of professional users to interact more effectively regularly. The most notable feature is Google Vids, a new tool that allows users to produce videos using generative AI assistance.

Here are five options: enhancements to existing features and completely new tools.

Create and share videos at work with Google Vids

Vids, their newest Workspace app, is an AI-powered video creation tool for the workplace. It can create a storyboard that you can quickly alter, and once you’ve selected a style, it’ll put together your first draft with suggested sequences from stock videos, photos, and background music. Vids can also help you land your message with the proper voiceover — pick one of their pre-set voiceovers or create your own. It’s a video, writing, production, and editing assistant.

Automatically translate captions into more languages in Meet

Workspace customers can enable translated captions during video chats and select their preferred language, making communication easier for Meet users worldwide. Translate for me in Meet, which is available in June. It will automatically recognize and translate captions into your selected language. Translate for Me adds translated caption functionality for 52 new languages, bringing the total number of supported languages to 69.

Protect sensitive files with a new AI Security add-on

The AI Security add-on enables IT teams to automatically identify, classify, and safeguard critical information throughout the enterprise in Google Drive. It employs privacy-preserving AI models that can be trained on data specific to your company, allowing for ongoing review, classification, and protection of current and new files in Drive.

Better organize information with new Sheets and Docs features

Sheets is gaining a new table feature that forms and organizes data in a modern, streamlined look. Choose a template from their new building blocks, which includes everything from project management to event planning and inventory management, so you never have to create a spreadsheet from scratch again. 

Easily send messages with new Gmail features

Are you trying (and failing) to send an email while on the go? Please help me write on Gmail Mobile, which now supports voice prompting, allowing you to send emails directly from your Gmail app. Also, check out the new instant polish feature coming to Gemini in Gmail, which will enable you to convert notes into a more comprehensive email draft with a single click—no prompt required. These new experiences will be available to Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Business customers, and Google One AI Premium users.
