How Yemisi Owoade is making impact with data analytics
Oluwayemisi Owoade, who recently bagged a Master of Science in Business Analytics from the University of New Haven, Connecticut, United States of America, is one woman who is quietly making an inroad in the field of data analytics.
Contrary to what many may think, Owoade has, however, stated that she is driven by more than academic pursuits. She noted that her move to the US was not solely for academic achievements, but also for personal development, networking, and the determination to make a lasting impact wherever she finds herself.
She added that her ‘adventure into the world of analytics’ was a self-paced learning process, during which she dedicated time to build, develop and polish her skills.
She also stated that she learnt a lot on the job, as she was never scared to ask questions.
After working on several personal and collaborative projects, Owoade got her first big break when she started consulting for Raymart Aviation as a business analyst. While in that position, she was instrumental in utilising customer data to bolster business operations and achieve a remarkable 40 per cent increase in sales for the company through targeted marketing campaigns.
In the course of her career, she has also worked with other companies, such as Fanfaro Oil
Recalling how she started her career, Owoade noted that upon realising her passion for crunching numbers and the significance of her skills in helping companies attain great profit margins, she decided to pursue an advanced degree in the field. According to her, when she commenced her Master’s degree programme, she quickly identified where her skills would be of great importance, and she contributed significantly to enhance the operations of the university’s enrollment and graduate admissions office.
She added that her innovative contributions streamlined the onboarding process for international students, slashing the initial application decision timeline by about 50 per cent. Her intervention earned her the Provost Tuition Award of the institution.
