Hyundai teases new affordable electric car ‘Inster’ EV: Upcoming Tata Punch EV rival?

South Korean carmaker Hyundai is gearing up to make an entry into the compact electric SUV market with the unveiling of the Inster EV, slated for a debut at the Busan International Motor Show later this month. As per the company, the name ‘Inster’ is derived from ‘intimate’ and innovative’. The carmaker has released the first set of teaser images of this SUV on its social media handles. If launched in India, the model will compete in the affordable electric vehicle segment, potentially locking horns against the likes of Tata Punch EV.

Hyundai Inster EV: Design
The Inster EV borrows its design cues from Hyundai’s existing Casper micro-SUV, featuring round headlights and modern pixelated LED daytime running lights that also function as turn indicators. On the rear, it features similar pixel-themed tail lights. Furthermore, the teaser images also show a front-mounted charging port, similar to what we can expect from the upcoming Creta EV.

Hyundai Inster: Range

While Hyundai has not yet revealed the details about the battery size and specs, the company has claimed that the vehicle will boast a WLTP range of 355 km on a single charge. In comparison, the Tata Punch EV gets two battery options with MIDC range between 315 km and 421 km.

Hyundai Inter: Expected price if launched in India

The launch of the Inster EV in India remains uncertain. However, if the model arrives in the Indian market, its price could range between Rs 11.5 lakh and Rs 15 lakh, directly challenging the Tata Punch EV both in range and pricing.
