Integrating Robotics with Human Security Personnel for Increased Efficiency

CXOToday has engaged in an exclusive interview with Major Manjit Rajain, Global Chairman, Tenon Group of Companies

  1. How will the integration of robotics with human security personnel enhance the efficiency of traditional security?

Integrating robotics with human security personnel can significantly enhance the productivity of our skilled security personnel. Security teams can now improve their work through constant surveillance, data collection, and real-time threat detection. These days robots have high-definition cameras, sensors, and analytics to monitor vast areas with precision continuously which allows human security personnel to focus on tasks that require thinking and intuition.

We recently launched iRobo, a robotic security in CapitaSpring, a Grade A commercial building belonging to Capitaland in the Central Business District of Singapore. It is the perfect example of how robots and human security officers can work together to improve their work. iRobo’s can cover wide areas and monitor 24/7 with their high-definition cameras and a range of sensors, which operate effectively in low-light conditions and detect minute details that human eyes might miss. It also excels in real-time threat detection using advanced analytics that can process data from cameras and sensors to identify suspicious activity, allowing for quicker response times to potential threats. Moreover, iRobo’s capacity to collect and store vast amounts of data over time allows security personnel to analyse this information to identify patterns, predict potential security risks, and optimize security strategies.

We wanted to provide a synergy where robots can handle routine surveillance and data processing while human officers can manage incidents that require critical thinking and interpersonal skills. We believe this teamwork will better use resources and improve overall security measures.

  1. With the launch of Robotic Security, how do you envision the future of AI-driven security evolving?

The robotic security system we launched works in tandem with human security personnel to provide a comprehensive security strategy. In the future, AI-driven security is likely to keep evolving, and security systems will continue to become even more intelligent and autonomous. Security robots will use machine-learning algorithms to understand and predict potential security threats, helping security staff proactively take preventive measures.

AI working together with human security will ensure a more responsive and adaptive security environment where robots can handle daily tasks like 24/7 surveillance and anomaly detection, while human personnel can focus on complex decision-making. We can also anticipate that AI-driven security systems will become more interconnected in the future, creating a network of surveillance and response units. This will help in real-time data sharing and coordinated incident response, enhancing security and reducing response times.

By assigning repetitive tasks like patrolling and monitoring large areas to robots, guards can now concentrate on more critical responsibilities. They can thoroughly investigate suspicious activities detected by iRobo, respond promptly to emergencies, thefts, or accidents, and help in assisting visitors, managing crowds, and de-escalating potential conflicts.

The iRobo’s data analysis provides real-time alerts for suspicious activity so that guards are immediately notified of potential threats, basis which they can execute faster and more coordinated responses. Additionally, iRobo’s extendable camera offers 360-degree visibility, helping guards identify blind spots and areas requiring closer attention. They offer constant surveillance, deterring criminal activity and promoting a safer environment for both staff and visitors. The data collected by these robots can be analyzed to identify crime trends and high-risk areas, helping security teams optimize patrol routes and resource allocation effectively.

  1. How does Tenon Group leverage AI to adapt to changing security threats and mitigate real-time risks?

We can address the current industry risks by integrating IoT, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence into our security solutions. Our Soteria platform uses this integration by monitoring smart asset parameters and processes in real-time. This proactive approach helps prevent breaches and ensures strict adherence to security protocols. Soteria offers services like Centralised Security Monitoring, GPS tracking, Power Monitoring, and more, each tailored to our customers’ specific needs. Our 24/7 state-of-the-art command center is powered by advanced technologies, enabling our expert teams to quickly detect, validate, and deter any perceived threats.

At Peregrine, we aim to help security leaders achieve their goals by enhancing surveillance and improving return on investment. We have shifted from “reactive threat management” and “intuition-led decision-making” to “proactive threat response” and “data-driven decision-making.” Integrating CCTVs and security concierge robots with our existing physical security system streamlines our security operations and strengthens infrastructure, boosting our security personnel’s productivity.

At Tenon Group, we use AI, IoT, and Machine Learning in our security solutions, enabling us to provide a “Service That Fits” – the Tenon way of servicing our customers. Our flexible SaaS model platform allows customers to use advanced trend analysis for continuous operational and security improvements, ensuring a proactive and effective security stance.

  1. Can you discuss the significance of Tenon Connect in enhancing transparency and providing clients with real-time access to critical information?

The launch of Tenon Connect shows our commitment to enhancing transparency and providing clients with real-time access to critical information. The Client Sphere Portal is a secure platform that provides clients with real-time access to critical information like Meeting Minutes (MOM) to stay informed about decisions and plans discussed. They can also view Site Inspection & Night Check Reports if they want to stay updated on the security activities conducted at their sites.

Additionally, the portal allows clients to monitor the frequency of visits by Tenon security personnel through Site Visit Tracking and track the attendance of security staff assigned to their locations via Attendance Monitoring. The Real-time Data & Analytics (OpsPulse) dashboard offers Customizable Views, allowing clients to modify the information displayed to their specific needs and the Actionable Insights share real-time insights to understand the security operations allowing the clients to make informed decisions accordingly.

By offering these features, we want to ensure that our clients are always informed and engaged. Our clients have complete confidence in their security arrangements and can actively participate in maintaining a secure environment.

  1. In your opinion, what are the key benefits and challenges associated with integrating AI into security management services?

Integrating AI into security management services can automate and streamline our operations. It helps us with monitoring and data analysis so that human security personnel can focus only on strategic responsibilities, improving overall efficiency and productivity. AI systems can analyze large amounts of data in real time and identify potential risks and anomalies faster and more accurately than humans. This allows us to proactively identify and react to threats with high accuracy and consistency, reducing the risk of human error.

However, integrating AI into the current safety systems will require significant investment in technology and training. Using AI for security often involves extensive data collection and analysis, which raises privacy and data protection concerns. To handle these challenges, organizations must ensure they comply with laws and protect sensitive information. While AI can greatly enhance security, it is critical to strike a balance and not rely on it too much. Human monitoring and involvement are essential for handling uncertain situations and making complex decisions.
