Investigation continues into Ponoka cybersecurity breach – CentralAlbertaOnline.com

– Following a cybersecurity breach of the Town of Ponoka’s digital network by an unauthorized third party on February 20, the Town is continuing to work with external cybersecurity experts who are conducting an ongoing forensic investigation into the matter.

The Town takes the privacy and security of personal information in our care very seriously. When the cybersecurity incident occurred, the Town acted immediately to contain the breach and engaged cybersecurity experts to assist with containment, remediation and to initiate a forensic investigation to determine what, if any, personal data was impacted.

As that investigation continues, any individuals or businesses that may have had confidential or personally identifiable information exposed will be notified. The forensic investigation involves a thorough review of the potentially impacted systems and data.

This cybersecurity incident has been reported to law enforcement and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner. The Town has also implemented enhanced security measures to better prevent an incident of this nature from reoccurring in the future.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue working to fully address this matter.
