iOS 18 could feature generative AI-powered custom emoji tool
Apple might use generative AI in iOS 18 to allow iPhone users to create custom emojis, letting them express themselves just the way they want. The company is already at the forefront of adding the latest Unicode emoji to iOS.
Additionally, Apple is working on an AI-powered smart recaps feature. It will provide you with a summary of your missed notifications, new messages, documents, and more.
Apple could let you use generative AI to create custom emoji
You can already use stickers in iMessage to add some spice and fun to your conversations. Apple also makes it easy to create stickers from any photo on your phone. The company will seemingly further build on this concept by using generative AI to create custom emoji. This way, you can make an emoji on the fly that perfectly describes the situation and your feelings.
Google allows Pixel users to create custom emoji wallpaper. And while it does offer an emoji kitchen, it does not heavily rely on generative AI.
This is just one of the many AI-powered features iOS 18 could pack. Apple plans to integrate AI into almost all its system apps to make them smarter and faster. Siri might also get an AI boost that will reportedly make it more conversational and smarter.
Smart recaps should make catching up on your missed notifications easier
Mark Gurman also revealed details about smart recaps in the newest edition of his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg. Using AI, iOS 18 can summarize long text messages, web pages, documents, and more. It will even summarize your missed notifications to bring you up to speed quickly.
Several Android phones already use AI to summarize long articles and notes. However, none of them provide a summary of missed notifications. Since iOS’ notification system is not as sophisticated as Android’s, this new AI-powered addition could be a welcome improvement
Besides AI features, iOS 18 could pack new Home Screen personalization options.
