The Cost of Renting an EV
The price of renting an EV depends on make and model, but “electric cars typically cost more to rent upfront,” according to AAA. However, if you’re a AAA member, you can save up to 20% on renting EVs through Hertz.
While you don’t need to worry about filing up on gas, you will have to charge.
“You can expect to pay around $0.05 per mile to charge your EV compared to $0.13 per mile to fuel your gas-powered car,” according to EnergySage. However, the charging cost depends on location, your EV battery and electricity source.
The Cost of Renting a Gas Car
In the rental car market, there are often more budget-friendly options with lower daily rates for gas cars, which is an important factor for many travelers. But, the price of gas is something to consider.
“You’ll pay more for gas if your car is less efficient (meaning it travels a shorter distance per gallon of gas) and if you’re driving more in the city than on highways,” per EnergySage.
