  • The new model is expected to share technology with Europe’s Citroen e-C3.
  • Stellantis boss Carlos Tavares first teased the Jeep in late May.
  • Jeep wants to sell 50% more vehicles in 2027 than it did in 2023.

Electric vehicles are proliferating across the United States and Jeep has just announced plans for a new EV that’ll be priced below $25,000 and launch around 2027. Will this be one of the models that will help legacy automakers topple Tesla from its perch atop the EV industry?

The new model will be badged as the Renegade and replace the old ICE-powered model. Confirmation of the new Renegade came during an investor day event at the Stellantis headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan. It will be considered a small UV and a presentation slide denoting it as being “under $25k for BEV variant” suggests that non-EV versions are also on the cards.

Stellantis has not provided detailed specifications about the all-electric Renegade. However, it could share much of its technology with the quirky Citroen e-C3 announced in Europe last year. That vehicle starts at €23,300 or $25,000, which is right in line with the price of the new Jeep.

If the two are related, then the Renegade could have the same 44 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery as the Citroen which gives it up to 199 miles (320 km) of WLTP range. Driving the front wheels is an electric motor with 111 hp and the e-C3 supports 100 kW DC fast charging through its 400-volt electrical architecture.

Compared to the e-C3, Jeep will likely make the Renegade look a little more rugged and perhaps make minor changes to the interior.

Stellantis boss Carlos Tavares teased the sub-$25,000 Jeep EV last month and has described this price point as the “sweet spot” for an EV.

“If you ask me what is an affordable BEV, I would say €20,000 in Europe and $25,000 in the U.S. So our job is to bring the safe, clean and affordable BEV to the U.S., $25,000. We’ll do it,” he said at the time.
