Jeep unveils Wagoneer S electric SUV, on its way to Australian market in 2025

American auto marque Jeep has unveiled a new electric SUV – the Wagoneer S – that it describes as its first “globally available”electric vehicle model, but the second EV that will present to the Australian market.

The Jeep Wagoneer S will boast nearly 500 kilometres of range from a 100 kWh battery, and traction control modes for any type of weekend adventure. It is due to arrive in Australia by the end of 2015, with the previously unveiled Avenger electric SUV due on these shores by the end of 2024

Jeep announced its transition to electric vehicles in mid-2022 with the promise of four fully-electric SUVs for the North American and European markets by 2025.

We got a first look into the all-electric Wagoneer S earlier this year, with the geometric precision and boxy body that has become fashionable, though these traits were exacerbated by the all-black exterior on display in the teaser images.

The official unveiling reveals headline-grabbing performance of 600 horsepower, over 800Nm of immediate torque, and acceleration of 0-100km/h in only 3.4 seconds. It includes a traction management system which features five distinct drive modes – Auto, Sport, Eco, Snow, and Sand.

“The launch of the all-electric Jeep Wagoneer S marks a new chapter in the storied history of the Jeep brand,” said Antonio Filosa, Jeep brand CEO.

“Building upon nearly a century of innovation and design, this first global EV will introduce a whole new generation of owners to an experience that is distinctly Jeep and 100% electric in every way. With new energy in the Jeep vehicle lineup, ranging from EV to V-8, customers have never had more freedom to choose their own adventure.”

Outside, the Wagoneer S looks like a monster, with some reports suggesting it measures in excess of 2 metres in width and nearly 5.5 metres in length.

The car’s front fascia is dominated by an enclosed seven-slot grille which illuminates the line-of-sight when approaching the vehicle. Meanwhile, the sleek albeit boxy look represents a drag coefficient of 0.29, the lowest ever for a Jeep vehicle and approximately 15 per cent better than the average SUV.

Inside, a best-in-class usable screen space of over 45 inches pairs with a segment-exclusive interactive front passenger screen, while direct ambient lighting boasts up to 64 selectable colours and customizable LED lighting with daytime and nighttime settings.

Those hoping for a premier sound experience will also be happy with the 1,160watt, 19-speaker system from McIntosh and a 12-inch subwoofer.

Recycled resources were used throughout, with seating, console, doors, and instrument panel surfaces all featuring a non-leather synthetic material.
