While a handful of teams from Mahoning Valley are gearing up to go to Houston for the FIRST Robotics World Championships – some students are making the trip solo.

This includes Girard High School Junior Leah Maurice, a member of the high school’s robotics team RoboCats.

Maurice will be competing with 110 other finalists from around the world to become one of the 10 Dean’s List World Championship winners at the event, which will be held April 17-20.

The Dean’s List Award recognizes individuals that demonstrated leadership and commitment to the FIRST Robotics’ core values of discovery, innovation, impact, inclusion, teamwork and fun.

Maurice qualified for the World Championship by earning one of two Dean’s List finalist awards at the Greater Pittsburgh Regional in March.

Becoming a Dean’s List finalist is an enormous accomplishment for the team. Leah is only the second RoboCat to win this award in their team’s 25-year history, according to a news release from the team.
