Kia EV4 spotted for the first time revealing new low-cost EV [Video]
If you thought the new EV3 was cool, Kia’s new electric sedan takes it to a new level. The Kia EV4 was spotted for the first time, revealing the sleek new entry-level electric sedan. From the first look, the EV4 looks very close to the concept shown last year. See for yourself in the video below.
Kia launches affordable EV offensive
Kia revealed the EV4 at its first annual EV Day last October. The EV4 is part of Kia’s new affordable electric vehicle lineup priced between $30,000 and $50,000.
The new affordable EV lineup includes the EV3, EV4, and EV5. These will round out Kia’s wide-ranging lineup, which already consists of the EV6 and EV9. Kia launched the EV5 in November, a compact electric SUV with starting prices of around $20,000 (149,800 yuan) in China.
At 4,615 mm long, 1,875 mm wide, and 1,715 mm tall, the EV5 will rival Tesla’s Model Y (4,760 mm x L, 1,921 mm x W, 1,624 mm x H), which starts at around $34,000 (249,900 yuan) in the region.
However, in Australia, where it will be imported, the EV5 is expected to start at around $46,000 (70,000 AUD). Kia plans to launch a cheaper Air trim to undercut the Model Y, starting at $43,100 (65,400 AUD).
After its debut last month, Kia opened orders for the EV3 in Korea this week. EV3 prices start at $30,700 (KRW 42.08 million). With incentives, Kia expects the EV3 will start at $29,200 (KRW 39.85 million).
Those prices are for the Standard model with up to 217 miles (350 km) range. The Long Range model, with up to 311 miles (501 km) range, starts at $34,100 (KRW 46.66 million).
Kia EV4 spotted in the wild for the first time
After Kia launched the EV5 and EV3, we are finally getting our first glimpse of the EV4. The EV4 is Kia’s take on an electric sedan.
Although it features four doors, Kia said the EV4 is an “entirely new type of EV sedan,” standing as a symbol of the brand’s innovation.
You can see from Healer TV’s latest video the EV4’s distinct character lines and sleek silhouette. The low nose and roof spoiler complement the vehicle’s sporty profile.
With its headlights extending to the edge of the hood, the EV4’s design symbolizes Kia’s “determination to push boundaries and accelerate the EV Revolution.”
Inside, the EV4 is expected to feature Kia’s next-gen ccNC infotainment with dual 12.3″ screens. Otherwise, Kia’s EV4 has a minimalistic design to “clear the mind” and avoid driver distractions.
As you can see from the video, the EV4 appears to maintain much of the concept’s sleek design. One of the first things noted is Kia’s new headlight design, previewed in the concept. You will also see that the grille is open, and most sensors are similar to the car shown in October.
From the side, you can see the roof line goes all the way back, highlighting the vehicle’s sporty profile.
The back side is reminiscent of a Stinger, with a performance car feel. As the reporter noted, the Kia EV4 is a “work of art.”
Like Kia’s K4, a compact sporty sedan, the EV4’s roof has raised bars on both sides, adding to its design.
From the first look, Kia’s EV4 is another significant upgrade as the brand revamps itself in the electric era.
The EV4 is expected to launch next year with starting prices around $35,000. In its home market, Kia’s new electric sedan will face little competition outside of the Hyundai IONIQ 6 and Tesla Model 3.
