Lakeside robotics team earns Best Engineered Robot | News
KIRTLAND — Lakeside High School is going nuts (and bolts) for robotics.
Two teams competed Saturday at the 13th Annual AWT RoboBots Competition at Lakeland Community College — Ohio’s largest regional combat robotics competition.
RoboBots allows middle and high school students to partner with industry mentors to build a 15-pound combat robot.
“Lakeside’s teams came ready to battle,” said Maureen Surbella, a Title 1 teacher at AACS.
The Lakeside-Wartortle team went 2-2 in the competition, but Lakeside scored big when they brought home the “Best Engineered Robot” award.
“The sponsors of the event said they have never seen a robot like it,” Surbella said. “Congratulations to all of our robotics team members. Your months of preparation does not go unnoticed, and we can’t wait to see where you roll next.”
The teams consisted of Clarixa Navarro, Annaliese Martone, Gina Oliver, Anna Lin, Gabe Benton, Lily Benton and Noah Kohler.
