Lynk & Co Showcases New Electric Super Sedan Ahead Of Imminent Reveal

Key Takeaways

  • Lynk & Co previews the upcoming Zero electric sports sedan.
  • It could have more than 1,200 horsepower courtesy of a quad-electric motor setup.
  • The Chinese automaker is currently testing the vehicle in the Huangshan mountain range in China.

Chinese automaker Lynk & Co has teased the all-electric Zero ahead of its imminent reveal. According to Deputy General Manager Flynn Chen, who shared images of the vehicle on Weibo, the Zero is currently undergoing performance testing in the Huangshan mountain range in Anhui, China.

While covered in camouflage, we can already tell the Zero will be a svelte-looking sports sedan. The front fascia is similar to that seen on several other Lynk & Co models, such as the 03+ Cyan Edition sports sedan and the newer 07 EM-P plug-in hybrid.

“Lynk & Co Zero is being tested extensively in Huangshan. Trust us, the champion of multiple WTCR titles, to deliver a performance-tuned Lynk & Co Zero.”

Sleek Styling Is Surprisingly Understated

It’s surprisingly understated, with a clean front end and slim LED lightbar. The front bumper has a straightforward treatment, but the production-spec model may have more dramatic styling. The side profile is exquisite, with muscular rear haunches and an unusual window line that tapers upwards towards the rear.

The vehicle will first go on sale in Europe late next year.

The rear overhang is unusually long, but this isn’t noticeable at first, thanks to the wraparound rear lights. Overall, it’s more interesting to look at than the Tesla Model S Plaid and far more appealing than the bulbous Mercedes EQS Sedan. According to Car News China, the Zero will reportedly measure approximately 197 inches long and 79 inches wide and boast a 118-inch wheelbase. Unfortunately, there are no interior shots.

Lynk & Co Zero Could Have More Than 1,200 Hp

Unsurprisingly, these dimensions are very similar to the upcoming Lotus Emeya. Remember, Lotus and Lynk & Co are part of the Chinese auto giant Geely, which also controls the Swedish brand Volvo. This suggests the vehicle could share its Electric Premium Architecture. Reports suggest the Zero will be underpinned by the Sustainable Experience Architecture and 800-volt technology used by another super sedan from the Geely group.

The powerful EV can manage up to 540 miles of range.

In top-spec FR trim, the Zeekr 001 produces an incredible 1,248 horsepower thanks to an electric drivetrain with four electric motors. The automaker claims it can sprint to 62 mph in just over two seconds, albeit with a rolling start. Lesser models are also available, but they’re still massively powerful, with the dual-motor AWD version producing 778 horses. In the 001, the range is pegged at 407 km, although this has been calculated on the optimistic CLTC cycle.

When Will It Arrive?

As such, there’s a possibility that the Lynk & Co Zero will receive the same drivetrains as its corporate stablemates, providing the brand with its own flagship sedan. Of course, we can expect plenty of technology, including a full suite of driver safety assists, with the top-spec model expected to get four-wheel steering. Perhaps we will see the Zeekr 001 FR’s tank turn, but that remains to be seen. There’s no word yet on when the vehicle will be revealed, but reports suggest it will debut next month at an event in Sweden. With Chinese construction, it’s unlikely this will ever make it to the US, and that’s a real pity.
