Mack adds LR Electric side loader adoption; achieves CARB/HVIP eligibility; talks EVs at ACT Expo
Mack Trucks now offers the ability to integrate the Heil fully electric RevAMP Automated Side Loader (ASL) with its Mack LR Electric Class 8 battery-electric vehicle (BEV) as an option through Heil Environment, which upfits and sells the body.
Mack made the announcement during Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo.
The fully electric compactor and auger includes an independent battery pack, which the company says enables the Mack LR Electric refuse vehicle to run longer. The Heil RevAMP ASL is also quiet and has zero hydraulics, according to the company.
The electric ASL is now available for order and is currently in the fleets of some Mack customers.
CARB/HVIP vouchers
Mack Trucks announced today that its 2024 Model Year Mack MD Electric and LR Electric models qualify for the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Clean Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP). This brings the total number of Mack battery-electric vehicles that qualify for HVIP to three.
EV market discussion
Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks (pictured above), spoke during the ACT Expo press conference about the EV market at large and Mack’s role in it.
“There is not one solution that’s going to meet the needs of the industry,” Randall said. “Together, fleets, users and OEMs are going to figure out how to transition to zero-emissions technology.”
Randall named corporate sustainability targets, shippers, and regulations as the three drivers of EV adoption.
He went on to talk about the economic realities for fleets. “There’s the economic and operation parity and we’re not there. We’re working hard to get there but we’re not there yet. But if you’re going to wait for that parity to adopt this technology, you’re missing out. We work with our partners to find the routes, to find the applications that work so we can get to that parity or close to that parity.”
