May is Military Appreciation Month!
With over 2.5 million men and women currently in U.S. military forces and more than 16 million Veterans who have served our country, many individuals and their families have sacrificed for the safety of the United States. May is Military Appreciation Month and NICCS is proud to offer cybersecurity resources at no cost to our nation’s military personnel, Veterans, and their families.

Cybersecurity Resources for Military/Veterans
- The Federal Virtual Training Environment (FedVTE) has hundreds of cybersecurity training courses on topics such as cloud computing, software supply chain security, network forensics, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and so many more. FedVTE accounts are free for federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial government employees and contractors, U.S. military, and Veterans. Sign up today to get started!
- The Cybersecurity for Veterans page on NICCS provides a Veterans User Guide to help individuals transitioning out of the military gain a better understanding of the cybersecurity education and training options available to them. Learn how to apply the skills obtained during service into a new and exciting career in cybersecurity to help continue to protect the U.S. from foreign adversaries.
- Did you know more than 1,300 Veterans, reservists, and military spouses are employed at CISA? In partnership with various non-profit organizations and other government agencies, CISA helps individuals interested in applying to positions on USAJobs, attending hiring events, and assisting with resume building. Explore career options that align to your goals by exploring Veteran and Military Spouse Employment Opportunities to continue to serve our country in a new way.
- The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has additional information on How to Apply to federal jobs, internship opportunities, and options for those recovering from injury to learn valuable skills. DHS also offers Veteran and Military Spouse Programs that connect military spouses with employers such as corporate and non-profit organizations that are seeking the essential 21st century workforce skills and attributes they possess.
- For more Veteran Resources, visit the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) repositories of career preparation and educational topics, federal resources for job seekers, and non-profit resources to help you succeed in the cybersecurity workforce. With webinars and training options from various government agencies, NIST has something for everyone!
The NICCS team is incredibly thankful for our Nation’s military personnel, military spouses, and Veterans that have sacrificed to protect our country. We recognize how difficult it can be for these groups to pursue cybersecurity education and training, and/or prepare for and transition to a civilian career in cybersecurity. This Military Appreciation Month, and every month, we are proud to share these no-cost resources to assist our military personnel, military spouses, and Veterans with these challenges and prepare and train them to protect our country in cyberspace.
