Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay provided financial support to the West Rembo Elementary School Robotics Team competing in the 2024 VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas in the United States.
The team, composed of fifth and sixth-grade students Rio Pauline Dames, Cassandra Elyze Cruz, Andrew Lijarso, and Zyric Abines, visited Binay at the Makati City Hall before their US trip.
West Rembo Elementary School is no longer part of Makati, but the mayor still used her funds to support the team.
Binay praised the team for their dedication and encouraged them to make the country proud.
Meanwhile, the Makatrix Robotics Team of Makati High School, the country’s lone public high school representative in the same competition, was also given full support by the city chief executive.

The robotics program was introduced in Makati public schools during the school year 2007-2008. In 2017, a new robotics program was integrated into the curriculum for grades 3 to 12 in the city’s public schools.
The Makati robotics curriculum is designed to hone problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The city has been providing public school students with age-appropriate robotics kits suited to their development level for seven years.
