Miami County Enhance Cybersecurity With 2024 Grant
During the session held on Tuesday, April 2, the Miami County Commissioners demonstrated their commitment to enhancing cybersecurity by authorizing a 2024 grant for the county’s Information Technology (IT) department.
The 2024 grant, greenlit by the County Risk Sharing Authority (CORSA) headquartered in Columbus, signifies a collaborative effort to reinforce cybersecurity measures. It includes provisions for reimbursements and support in implementing an enhanced multi-factor authentication process. Adam Emswiler, Director of the IT department for Miami County, emphasized the importance of this initiative in enhancing the county’s cybersecurity posture.
2024 Grant: Financial Relief for Two-Factor Authentication
Emswiler elucidated that the 2024 grant application seeks to alleviate the financial burden associated with implementing a comprehensive two-factor authentication system. This system is slated for adoption across various county agencies, with a particular focus on fortifying the communication center and its interconnected agencies.
Moreover, internal personnel accessing resources remotely will also benefit from heightened authentication measures. The anticipated cost for implementation, subject to a competitive bidding process, is estimated at approximately $55,000 annually.
Alongside cybersecurity initiatives, the commissioners addressed a spectrum of resolutions and business matters during the session.
These included setting a hearing date to consider a zoning change request, awarding a bid for a bridge replacement project, amending the Miami County Communication Center Board of Directors’ program, and proclaiming April as National County Government Month. Additionally, employment verifications and requisitions in the Department of Job and Family Services were approved to ensure smooth personnel transitions and effective service delivery.
Evaluation of Bid Proposals
Towards the conclusion of the meeting, bid proposals for the Miami County audio-video recording system project were reviewed by Justice AV Solutions, based in Louisville, Kentucky, and BIS Digital Response, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The decisions made during the session underline Miami County’s proactive governance approach, strategic investments in cybersecurity, and commitment to delivering efficient services to its residents. In an era of evolving cyber threats, the county remains steadfast in its efforts to fortify its digital infrastructure and uphold the trust of its constituents.
