Microsoft announces 3,2 billion investment in cloud and artificial intelligence in Sweden
Microsoft will invest SEK 33,7 billion ($3,21 billion) to expand its cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure in Sweden over the next two years. This was reported by the US technology group, according to which this investment, the largest made so far by Microsoft in Sweden, includes the commitment to contribute to the training of approximately 250 thousand people, equal to 2,4% of the population, to allow them to acquire artificial intelligence skills that will help strengthen the competitiveness of the Scandinavian country.
“This announcement goes beyond technology, it is a commitment to ensuring broad access to the tools and skills the Swedish people and economy need to thrive in the age of AI,” said Microsoft Vice President and President Brad Smith in a statement. As part of the investment, the company said it plans to install 20 of the most advanced graphics processing units (GPUs) at its Swedish data centers in Sandviken, Gavle and Staffanstorp. The announcement comes close to the meeting between Smith himself and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Stockholm.
