New community electric vehicle could be coming to Dawson Springs | News
HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (WEVV) – A new electric vehicle is planning on making its way to the City of Dawson Springs.
The Eli Electric Vehicles company has begun the process of speaking with officials to weave in the sustainable mode of transportation for the community.
Eli Electric Vehicles is a California based equity crowdfunded company. This means it is funded through mass amounts of people across the country who believe in the reimagination of how societies move in different areas.
Jenny Sewell, the Mayor of Dawson Springs, tells 44News she recognizes the similarities in the company’s mission statement to her own small town.
“In looking at our community we notice something very unique. Dawson Springs is well laid out for a 35 mile an hour and under rated vehicle, and the Eli just has that written all over it,” says Jenny Sewell, the Mayor of Dawson Springs.
The town already has an ordinance to allow golf carts to drive on many of their roads. The Eli Zero is different because it still has the same elements as a regular automobile, such as air conditioning, heat, and even turn signals.
“About 70% of people only travel around a 10 mile radius to run errands and to get to work,” says James Seargent, the Head of U.S. Operations for Eli EV Inc.
The City of Dawson Springs is so intertwined, over half of their roads could be used to drive the Eli Zero.
“You would be able to travel to the school from our neighborhoods in the Eli,” says Mayor Sewell.
According to James Seargent the Head of U.S. Operations for the company, you can charge the vehicle by plugging it into the wall next to your I-Phone, or even downtown where the light poles have an outlet as well.
“What we’re seeing is here is an electric car that works great, and you can store it in your outbuilding. You can feed it a penny or two a day,” says Mayor Sewell.
On the economic side, the Eli Zero will remove any trips to the gas station, and the cost to get from one place to another is a few cents.
“For an opportunity of a month of driving in the area of Dawson Springs with a $5 bill, you’ll be able to drive the entire month,” says Seargent.
The release of the Eli Zero will be at the end of this year, and for the City of Dawson Springs.
