New electric vehicle charging station being constructed in Boardman, Ohio with state funding
BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced that the state will award nearly $16 million to install more electric vehicle (EV) fasting-charging stations along interstates and other routes.
Along US-224 in Boardman, a new EV charging station will be installed at the Tiffany Plaza shopping center. Construction is expected to begin in late 2024 and 2025.
Funding for the EV chargers is being awarded as part of the second round of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program. Ohio was the first state in the nation to activate an NEVI charging station as part of this program.
The NEVI funding will be matched with more than $4 million from the private companies selected to install and operate the new EV charging stations.
The addition of these 22 new stations moves Ohio closer to its goal of locating fast chargers every 50 miles throughout the state. Each location will be no more than one mile from the freeway and will include four charger ports with at least 150 kilowatts of power available per port. The state also hopes to add restrooms and convenience stores to these locations.
