Some days after unveiling the 2024 facelift of Nio’s sedan ET7 at the Beijing Auto Show , the CEO William Li flew to the United States for a 48 hour trip.

During the visit, Li met with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and participated in an event organised by Peking University Northern California Alumni Association. In the university, Nio CEO participated in a panel discussion about electric vehicles, autonomous driving and entrepreneurship.

In a video shared on WeChat, the chief executive said, “I took the ES8 to the airport and will be returning to China soon. I attended a two-day meeting in the United States. It has been a year since I last saw our colleagues from the United States”.

Later in the video, Nio CEO disclosed that he met with the CEO of the AI giant Nvidia, Jensen Huang — which is a partner from Nio since its inception back in 2014.

“I met with Jensen Huang from Nvidia and discussed the development direction of AI. I also participated in an event organized by Peking University Northern California Alumni Association. I hope Chinese car brands can be sold in the United States soon,” William Li said.

Nio has been collaborating with Nvidia since 2014, initially focusing on infotainment systems and later expanding to software-defined vehicles and automated driving features. Nio’s current NT 2.0 platform-based models are equipped with four Orin X chips as standard, providing a total computing power of 1,016 Tops.

During the previous Nio Day in December, the company unveiled its first in-house developed autonomous driving chip, which will be integrated into the ET9 executive flagship sedan.

At the annual event, Nio introduced the Shenji NX9031, its new chip built on a 5 nm process with over 50 billion transistors, supporting 32-core CPUs. At the time, William Li said the chip’s computing power “is comparable to four Nvidia Drive Orin X chips”.
