NSU receives $1 million grant from Google for new cybersecurity clinic | News
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Northeastern State University has been selected to receive a $1 million grant from Google for a new cybersecurity clinic.
The grant is part of Google’s Cybersecurity Clinics Fund in the company’s philanthropic arm. The funding comes from a $25 million collaboration with the Consortium of Cybersecurity Clinics.
NSU says the new clinic will give students the opportunity to learn cybersecurity and AI skills in a hands-on manner while also helping to protect from cyber attacks.
The World Economic Forum’s 2024 Global Risk Report says the demand for cyber professionals is expected to grow by 32% by 2033.
“With this generous grant from Google, Northeastern State University can further power one of Oklahoma’s Top 100 critical occupations with workforce-ready cybersecurity professionals,” said Rodney Hanley, president of NSU in a press release. “This grant not only provides essential immersive learning opportunities for our students, but much-needed digital security for those within our communities and state.”
NSU says it will work to modify its program infrastructure over the next year to install labs on both the Tahlequah and Broken Arrow campuses, with plans to launch in-field operations in the fall of 2025.
