PEVS 2024 Targets Rp 400 Billion in Electric Vehicle Transactions
Jakarta. Transactions for electric vehicles (EVs) at the Indonesia Electric Vehicle Industry Association (Periklindo) Electric Vehicle Show (PEVS) 2024, scheduled from April 30 to May 5 in Jakarta, are aimed to reach Rp 400 billion ($24.76 million).
“We are providing more options compared to previous years with many new brands. This will make visitors curious,” said the Chairman of the Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association (Periklindo), Moeldoko, on Wednesday.
According to Moeldoko, PEVS 2024 will feature 82 exhibitors consisting of various EV brands, both motorcycles and cars, from several countries.
Moeldoko hopes that PEVS 2024 can boost electric motorcycle sales, which have not reached their maximum potential despite government subsidies. Each unit of brand new electric two-wheelers and a converted e-motorbike that originally ran on combustion engines will get a subsidy of Rp 7 million. These subsidies will be in effect for 2023-2024, and will only apply to 1 million electric motorbikes.
“This exhibition will expand education related to EVs and narrow the gap in public understanding of the technology,” he said.
Indonesia is currently pushing for a transition to the use of EVs as part of efforts to switch to more environmentally friendly energy.
The Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) reported that cumulatively, during the period of January-December 2023, sales of electric cars from factories to dealers (wholesales) in Indonesia reached 17,060 units. This achievement is 65.2 percent higher than January-December 2022, which recorded sales of around 10,330 units.
Throughout January-December 2023, the highest sales were achieved by the Hyundai Ioniq 5 Signature Extended, with wholesale figures of 6,334 units. Below it, the Wuling Air EV Long Range recorded wholesale sales of 3,461 units in the same period. The sales of these two car models far exceeded other models.
In March 2024, electric car sales in the domestic market reached 7,024 units in March 2024. This number increased by 40.87 percent compared to the previous month’s sales of 4,986 units.
Meanwhile, government data shows electric motorcycle sales in the first quarter of 2024 reached 11,563 units, slightly exceeding 2023’s total of 11,532 units.
