PLA medical team completes cross-continental remote robotic surgery

BEIJING, June 11 — Recently, the European conference of Challenges in Laparoscopy & Robotics (CILR) was held in Rome, Italy. During the event, the urology team from the Third Medical Center of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) General Hospital completed an extra-long-distance cross-continental minimally invasive surgery with its remote surgical robot.

The surgery explored the intersection and integration of new concepts and technologies including robotic surgery, remote communications and artificial intelligence (AI).
