Kel Kearns, plant manager of the Tennessee Electric Vehicle Center, located at BlueOval City in Stanton, has announced his retirement.
“Kel chose to retire. He decided the time was right, after guiding the early development of the Tennessee Electric Vehicle Plant (which is now nearly built), assembling a strong leadership team and establishing a culture focused on people and quality. We thank Kel for his many years of service around the world.” ~ Ford
In September 2021, Ford announced the $5.6 billion project to build electric F-Series pickups at the 3,600-acre parcel of land – the Memphis Regional Megasite – in Staton in Haywood County.
BlueOval City, is a joint venture with SK Innovation, and is building battery factories at the Tennessee site and in Glendale, Kentucky.
In West Tennessee, the project is predicted to boost the economies of several counties. Ford plans to employ about 6.000 workers at the plant, while construction of the factory and the arrival of Ford suppliers will create thousands of more jobs.
