(Bloomberg) — Proton Holdings Bhd., the Malaysian carmaker backed by China’s Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd., has unveiled the first electric vehicle (EV) brand to be made in the Southeast Asian country.

Proton announced the e.MAS, on Wednesday in Kuala Lumpur, with the first models expected to roll off the production line by the end of 2025. The vehicles will be made at the Proton factory in Perak, north of the capital, which is transforming into an EV hub with a $10 billion injection from Geely.
