Rhode Island College appoints first Cybersecurity Institute Director
The Institute for Cybersecurity and Emerging Technologies at Rhode Island College has appointed Douglas Alexander as its new director. He brings more than 40 years of experience in a variety of roles across the public and private sectors.
Alexander has served as the director of community engagement and government relations at OSHEAN, Rhode Island’s non-profit research and education network. In this role, he worked with a wide range of stakeholders to OSHEAN’s mission of providing digital security solutions to libraries, K-12 schools, healthcare organizations, and state and local government agencies. He is also a co-founder of the New Harbor Group, a cybersecurity workforce development organization. He has held numerous leadership positions in the field of information technology and cybersecurity, including teaching, systems engineering, and project management.
In his new role at the Institute, Alexander will be responsible for overseeing the budget, planning, and organization of its initiatives and events. He will also use his expertise to identify meaningful ways in which the Institute can offer support through cybersecurity training and partnerships.
“I have worked with technology for my entire career, but at heart I’ll always be a teacher,” said Douglas S. Alexander, Director of the Institute. “Creating the Institute’s role in educating the Rhode Island community is the biggest and most engaging challenge I’ve ever tackled. There is so much good work to be done.”
