Robotics, 3D printing, coding among topics awaiting grades 6-8 in free STEM camp | School News
It’s time for rising sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders to register for the free summer STEM enrichment program on the Cumberland County campus of Roane State Community College.
The camp will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday July 8-25. Free breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided daily.
The Verizon Innovative Learning STEM Achievers aims to empower middle school students in under-resourced communities to explore STEM subjects, learn problem-solving skills and gain exposure to career opportunities in technology fields.
Participating students will receive mentorship, access to next-generation technology and hands-on training connected to real-world challenges.
The initiative provides engaging programming in a setting in which students are taught design thinking, 3D printing, augmented reality and social entrepreneurship.
No prior knowledge or experience is required.
Through robotics, students will be taught the basics of computer hardware, programming, neutral networks and electronics.
Students will be taught how to become digital storytellers and content creators using virtual reality, augmented reality and branching narrative software.
The basics of product design, branding and computer-aided design software will be taught through 3D printing. In coding, instructors will teach about electricity, circuits and programming.
Participants will also visit STEM-related venues during field trips.
