“Robotics Competition in Panola County Engages Students in STEM Learning” | Announcements
Students from various grade levels are gearing up for an exhilarating robotics competition that promises to showcase their ingenuity and teamwork.
Led by dedicated mentor Nicola Ritter, the young innovators are part of a dynamic program sponsored by the 4-H organization, designed to foster skills in robotics, computer programming, and other STEM disciplines. With guidance from Ritter and support from the community, students learned the ins and outs of building robots and coding, all while engaging in hands-on problem-solving and teamwork exercises.
The competition, which took place on Saturday, May 4 featured teams from third grade through 12th grade, each competing in their respective leagues. From elementary students grappling with basic concepts to high schoolers tackling complex challenges, the event promises to be a celebration of STEM education and youth achievement.
For many students, the competition offers more than just a chance to win accolades. Through the 4-H program, participants have the opportunity to earn scholarships and explore potential career paths in STEM fields, laying the foundation for future success.
Participants come from a diverse range of backgrounds, with some having prior experience in robotics and others stepping into the world of STEM for the first time. Regardless of their background, all students are encouraged to embrace the spirit of learning and experimentation, supported by a community that values collaboration and innovation.
During the competition, students were excited and showcased all of their skills . Panola Robotics team members Samuel Ford and Keelan Wilcox won second place in the competition. With the support of their mentor Nicola Ritter and other team members, the young innovators are now working hard for next year and are poised to make their mark in the world of robotics.
