San Jose supports female entrepreneurs with retail spaces

Downtown San Jose’s retail industry growth opens a new chapter with Moment Paseo, a program aimed at supporting five female-led businesses by offering them physical retail spaces. The introduction of these spaces contributes to their growth potential and boosts their visibility.

Entrepreneurs involved in this initiative come from a range of industries, such as clothing, jewelry, home goods, and food, highlighting the lively diversity in the local retail sector. The city’s commitment to women entrepreneurs and economic growth is visible through such an approach, benefiting the ongoing pandemic recovery.

While the commercial trade in central San Jose has been moderately inactive, success stories like the Moment popup shops at the Market Street garage do exist. The extension of this model is in the planning stage with Moment San Pedro, which aims to invigorate the bounce-back movement of commercial activity in San Jose.

The location for Moment Paseo was meticulously chosen. It is in two places on the Paseo de San Antonio pathway, served as a vibrant hub for these five women-led businesses. This prime location assists in networking, organizing client meetings, and digging up new opportunities.

The leaders of these businesses have efficiently leveraged the spaces in Moment Paseo to elevate their ventures.

Alex Stettinski, CEO of the San Jose Downtown Association, along with other esteemed community figures such as Mayor Matt Mahan, has been supportive of this project, demonstrated by their attendance at the inaugural ceremony. The public event further exhibited their belief in this initiative’s transformative impact on San Jose’s downtown landscape.

Featured businesses in Moment Paseo include La Paloma Imports, Cositas Contreras, MiGi Cera Candles, Plant Slut, and Bad Witch Crystals, each showcasing their uniquely crafted products. Spanning from authentic Mexican goods to handcrafted candles and healing stones, the range has something in store for everyone.

The inaugural ceremony conveyed an optimistic outlook for the upliftment of the San Jose’s downtown retail scene. Business owners like Marcelina Castro view Moment Paseo as a significant leap forward in their entrepreneurial journey. The positivity reverberating among the participants indicates the anticipation around this unique retail avenue.

The emergence of retail spaces like Moment Paseo portrays a promising glimpse of resurgence in San Jose’s downtown retail environment, stimulating economic vitality. These retail spots, fostering diversity and catering to a wide audience, are not just shopping destinations, but also a vital component of the local economy and employment scene.
