SAP Acquires LeanIX, Expands Business Transformation Portfolio

SAP has completed its acquisition of LeanIX, growing its business transformation and AI portfolio.

LeanIX, an enterprise architecture management (EAM) software provider, has been a strategic partner of SAP and SAP Signavio solutions for ten years.

Indeed, there are already many organizations using LeanIX’s offerings as part of their RISE with SAP digital transformations, but the combined offering will now provide SAP’s customers with access to a full suite of business transformation tools, plus AI-enabled process optimizations.

Christian Klein, CEO and Member of the Executive Board of SAP SE, commented at the time of its agreement to acquire LeanIX:

Systems and processes go hand in hand. Together with LeanIX, we want to offer a first-of-its-kind transformation suite to provide holistic support to our customers on their business transformation journeys.

“Building on our decades of expertise, we’ll embed generative AI to offer self-optimizing applications and processes that can help businesses achieve key goals such as maximizing cash flow while minimizing their environmental impact.”

LeanIX’s software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering allows over 1,000 global customers to gain a  complete view of their IT applications, uncover obsolete applications, and design a new targeted IT environment. It also provides planning resources for a new architectural roadmap.

Moreover, the newly acquired EAM company has recently added an AI assistant that utilizes generative AI for enterprise architecture management, pinpointing new automation opportunities.

Similarly, SAP invested $1 billion into various generative AI start-ups earlier this year, including Aleph Alpha GmbH, Anthropic PBC, and Cohere.

At the same time, it has expanded its portfolio to include overlaying process dependencies and mapping the impact of IT transformations.

According to SAP, the combination of LeanIX’s IT landscape transformation capabilities, the SAP Signavio Process Transformation Suite, RISE with SAP, and the SAP Business Technology Platform will allow SAP’s customers to foster continuous adaptability and improvement.

Mark Wheeler, Chief Marketing Officer at LeanIX, described the reaction to the acquisition’s completion from the SAP Signavio Business Process Transformation Forum in Berlin: “The big announcement is out: LeanIX is officially part of the SAP family.

“André Christ, alongside Rouven Morato and Gero Decker, are on stage, painting a picture of how we can enable organizations to evolve faster and drive change more readily.

This significant moment marks the official union of LeanIX and SAP, fuelling our mission and paving the way for AI-powered process optimization and technology transformations.

Elsewhere, SAP continues to invest in the CX space and features in Gartner’s latest Magic Quadrant for the CRM Customer Engagement Center.
