SAP AI Core Leverages AWS for Generative AI Advancements

SAP AI Core is set to transform enterprise operations through a strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS). This collaboration integrates advanced generative AI models from Amazon Bedrock into SAP AI Core, enabling businesses to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and drive innovation across their operations.

SAP SE and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have announced a strategic collaboration aimed at revolutionizing cloud enterprise resource planning (ERP) through the integration of generative artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative seeks to streamline business processes, enhance efficiency, and drive innovation across various industries by embedding AI directly into enterprise applications.

The core of this transformation lies within the SAP AI Core, which now incorporates generative AI models from Amazon Bedrock. This integration grants customers access to a range of advanced large language models (LLMs) like Anthropic’s Claude 3 and Amazon Titan, enabling the creation of highly customized applications. SAP’s vast customer base can leverage these models to enhance their data-driven insights, automate routine tasks, and innovate more rapidly.

This collaboration is designed to expedite the adoption of generative AI, facilitating the modernization of key business processes that rely on SAP solutions. By embedding these AI capabilities within RISE with SAP and other intelligent scenarios, enterprises can achieve significant operational improvements. The SAP AI Core infrastructure ensures secure and seamless integration of these models, allowing businesses to build scalable and efficient generative AI applications.

Harnessing AWS Technology for Enhanced Performance

In addition to the integration of AI models, SAP is leveraging AWS technology to optimize its cloud offerings. SAP’s use of AWS Graviton3 chips for SAP HANA Cloud has already demonstrated substantial performance gains and cost savings. With Graviton3-based Amazon EC2 instances, SAP has achieved up to 30% better compute performance for analytical workloads and a 45% reduction in carbon footprint.

Building on this success, the two companies are teaming up on the next generation of Graviton4 for SAP HANA Cloud, aiming to further enhance performance and efficiency. The collaboration also extends to the use of AWS Trainium and Inferentia chips, which are purpose-built for AI and machine learning workloads. In a proof of concept, SAP engineers managed to train and fine-tune generative AI models significantly faster using these chips, reducing the training time from 23 days to just two days. This leap in efficiency allows SAP to accelerate the development of its AI offerings while maintaining high standards of accuracy and reliability.

Advancing RISE with SAP on AWS

Thousands of enterprises have already adopted RISE with SAP on AWS to handle their most complex and large-scale SAP solution implementations. With the introduction of the next-generation Amazon EC2 High Memory U7i instances, customers can now access up to 32TiB of memory in a single instance. This high-memory capability is crucial for supporting expanding SAP HANA database requirements and improving the performance of memory-intensive applications such as SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

Amazon’s Project Kuiper is among the notable adopters of RISE with SAP. This ambitious initiative aims to deliver affordable, high-speed broadband to underserved areas globally. By utilizing SAP software on AWS, Project Kuiper can manage its complex supply chain and manufacturing operations more effectively. The integration of RISE with SAP also enables the Kuiper team to focus on innovation and scaling their operations without being bogged down by IT management concerns.

Integrating Generative AI into SAP AI Core

This expanded collaboration between SAP and AWS further underscores a shared commitment to innovation and efficiency. By integrating generative AI into SAP AI Core and leveraging advanced AWS technologies, the two companies are setting a new standard for enterprise cloud solutions. This partnership not only enhances the capabilities of SAP’s ERP applications but also provides customers with the tools they need to remain competitive in an increasingly digital world.

Christian Klein, CEO of SAP SE, emphasizes that collaborations like this are essential for driving accelerated innovation across ERP applications. By embedding generative AI solutions, customers can experience transformative benefits that propel their businesses forward. Meanwhile, Matt Garman, incoming CEO at AWS, highlights the long-standing relationship between AWS and SAP, noting that thousands of enterprises already rely on SAP solutions on AWS to optimize their mission-critical applications. The integration of generative AI further enhances these capabilities, making businesses more efficient, responsive, and sustainable.

As SAP and AWS continue to deepen their collaboration, the future of enterprise cloud solutions looks promising. The integration of generative AI, advanced computing technologies, and scalable infrastructure ensures that businesses can not only keep pace with the digital transformation but also lead it.
