State gives grants for more EV charging stations | News
MILWAUKEE (WKOW) — Finding a spot to fill up your gas tank is easy in Wisconsin, but if you drive an electric vehicle, it might be harder to find charging stations in your area.
According to our Milwaukee affiliate, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation awarded $23.3 million to 53 locations across the state as a part of the Wisconsin Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program.
The funds will go towards fast charging stations.
The biggest beneficiary is Wisconsin-based Kwik Trip as 24 of its gas stations will benefit from the grant.
“This is something that, you know, we’ve been looking forward to,” said Ben Liebl, Kwik Trip Public Relations Specialist. “Bring an alternative fuel to our guests with this being in the form of EV fast chargers.”
The Department of Transportation says the EV charging stations could be operational by this fall.
