MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Stellar Robotics, Team 5413, is marking a decade of providing Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) learning opportunities to K-12 students in Richland and surrounding counties. To celebrate this milestone, they’re hosting an exciting new event: the Shawshank Showdown.

The free event will take place on Saturday, June 8th, from 8am to 5pm at Mansfield Senior High School, located at 124 N. Linden Rd. Robots will compete in “CRESCENDO”, the 2024 FIRST Robotics Competition game challenge, where they’ll be shooting game pieces, climbing a chain, working together, and defending their goal. To see the game in action, check out this YouTube video.

The event is currently seeking volunteers for various roles, including field setup and teardown, safety glasses distribution, registration table management, team queuing, and field resetting after matches. Interested individuals can register as a volunteer here.

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore Education Row, where they can discover local opportunities through businesses, local schools, colleges, organizations, and other FIRST teams. A Food Truck Alley will also be available for attendees.

The event is sponsored by the Richland Area Chamber & Economic Development through its Microsoft TechSpark grant funds. Additional donors and sponsors are welcomed to support this amazing new event that Stellar Robotics is bringing to Mansfield. Donations can be made here.

The worldwide mission of FIRST is to provide life-changing robotics programs that instill young people with the skills, confidence, and resilience to build a better world. As a community-based, non-profit educational organization, Stellar Robotics is proud to assist in this mission by promoting and teaching STEAM skills through competitive and non-competitive robotics programs open to any students K-12 in Richland County and the surrounding areas.
