Stephen King Hits Out at Marjorie Taylor Greene
Stephen King is continuing to hit out at Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene on social media, mocking the Georgia Representative’s stance on electric vehicles.
Greene appeared at Donald Trump‘s rally in Las Vegas, Nevada, on June 9, where she suggested that the increase in electric vehicles would drive up gas prices.
“If you think gas prices are high now, just wait until you are forced to drive an electric vehicle,” the 50-year-old told the cheering crowd, adding “America is sick of it.”
King took to X, formerly Twitter on Sunday to ridicule Greene’s comments.
“MTG: ‘If you think gas prices are high now, wait til they make you buy an electric vehicle.’ You can’t make this crap up,” the horror writer wrote.
Since being shared, King’s post has received over 680,000 views. Newsweek has reached out to Marjorie Taylor Greene and Stephen King for comment via email.
Greene is a staunch supporter of the former president, who is the presumptive Republican candidate for 2024 after landing enough delegate votes in the presidential primaries.
The Biden administration is championing electric vehicles as part of a broader strategy to address climate change and reduce carbon emissions. President Joe Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law in August 2022, with the legislation providing tax credits for people that purchase electric vehicles, as well as businesses that invest in electric vehicle infrastructure.
This isn’t the first time that King has taken aim at Greene.
In April, Greene slammed fellow GOP members who voted for a Ukraine aid bill. The legislation provided $60 billion to help Ukraine in its continued fight against Russian invasion. However, Greene described the bill’s passing as “the sellout of America today.”
“We had members of Congress in there waving the Ukrainian flag on the United States House of Representatives floor while we’re doing nothing to secure our border,” she told reporters outside the Capitol building. “I think every American in this country should be furious.”
In response to Greene’s remarks, King called the Republican congresswoman “Moscow Marjorie,” a nickname originally given to the Georgia Representative by Republican former congressman Ken Buck.
In January, The Shining author blasted Greene on X, after the Congresswoman said she approved of the partial government shutdown.
Greene shared a post by journalist Joyce Karam that read: “SCOOP: Hundreds of US Gov. Employees plan Walkout on Tuesday over Biden’s Gaza Policies. **22 Agencies** involved.”
“Another reason I won’t feel guilty over a government shutdown,” Greene wrote. “Too many federal employees are nothing more than political activists. This will be a great list to fire ASAP!”
Commenting on Greene’s post, King cheekily asked: “Do you keep getting paid, dear?”
